Coaches Rave About Perry Jones' Versatility

Jan 31, 2011 6:35 PM

Baylor's Perry Jones is a projected top-three pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

"He's a very gifted young man with his size, length and athleticism," said OU coach Jeff Capel. "You match that with skill and he can hurt you in so many different ways.

"He can hurt you on the offensive glass. He can score with his back to the basket. He can face up or get it off the defensive board and push it himself. He can pass it. He can shoot it from 15 to 17 feet consistently and put it on the floor. That arsenal makes him very difficult to defend."

Over 35 scouts attended Baylor's game against Kansas in order to see how Jones would fare against an elite team.

"He's (nearly) 7 foot and can run and jump and put his head above the rim," KU coach Bill Self said after the game. "I'd say he's a pretty good prospect. He's maybe the best prospect in the country from a pure prospect standpoint. There's not a better athlete out there than Perry."

Morris Twins Lead No. 2 Kansas Over Baylor

Jan 18, 2011 8:58 AM

The Morris Twins helped lead No. 2 Kansas to an 85-65 victory over Baylor on Monday night.

"That was by far the best we've played," Kansas coach Bill Self said of an amazing opening half. "The twins were the best players in the game, but I really felt like everybody played well, especially in the first half."

By halftime, Markieff Morris already had 15 points, making all seven of his shots, and Marcus Morris was 6-of-7 shooting for 13 points as Kansas led 53-32.

"We could have not missed any shots, that would be better," Marcus Morris said. "We missed some shots, but that was one of the best first halves we've played all season. That was the best basketball we've played all season."

"Gary has been a winner all of his life," Baylor coach Scott Drew said in a released statement Wednesday night. "We are extremely excited to have him part of the Baylor family."

Drew: Being Ranked Takes Away Ability To Sneak Up

Jan 7, 2011 12:49 PM

Baylor is on the cusp of being ranked in the Top 25, something coach Scott Drew acknowledges isn't always a good thing.

"One thing about being ranked is you get everyone's A game. You can't sneak up on anybody. You're the hunted instead of doing the hunting. Last year's team through nonconference we had the opposite effect," Drew said.
